Visa Runs shut down

No comments :
We saw in the newspaper (the South China Post, when we were up on Taiwan of all places) that Thai Immigration is shutting down the visa runs for a very high percentage of foreigners, arguing that many ping-ponging farangs work illegally in Thailand and have been getting away with it for too long (Remember: ASEAN is Coming!).
Visa Run Thailand shut down
Shut down on Visa Runs.
The thinking is that after one, maybe two visa runs, some people will be turned away at the border and won't be given a Visa on Arrival but required to get Thai visas in their passports at the Thai Consulate in whatever country they ducked into.

This can spell trouble for some; what happens when a runner exits Thailand for a turnaround trip and then with their Cambodia visa can't get back into Thailand without a Thai visa? He's just left Cambodia, or Malaysia or wherever and are then stuck between countries at the frontier. Interesting scenario!

We'd like to hear from anyone who has witnessed or knows of this new law and development first-hand. We know that with the coup, the Junta is watching arrivals ever more carefully, and it's suspected that vocal supporters of the Reds may face immigration problems in the near future.
